Couldn’t have asked for better weather this weekend for the annual Mount Vernon Easter Egg Dash, Lisbon Easter Egg hunt and Mount Vernon Fire Department’s pancake breakfast. Thunderstorms rolled through the area late Friday evening, but cleared to a mostly sunny and beautiful day in the region.
The line might have been long at the firefighter’s pancake breakfast, but it was not a long wait to get eggs, pancakes, sausage and juice in the fire hall Saturday morning. Members of the area Boy Scouts and 4-H Trailblazers clubs offered assistance as volunteers in cleaning up tables, running additional pancakes around and other efforts.
The Mount Vernon Easter Egg Dash was over relatively in a flash after the whistles were blown in each age group. Members of the Cornell men’s soccer team helped with laying out the eggs in each age group before the event, as well as manning some games with youth eight an older. Participants in the egg dash collected eggs filled with candy and numbered paper. The paper slips could be exchanged for prizes at a table for each age group, and golden tickets also earned prizes. The event is a collaboration between the City of Mount Vernon, Mount Vernon Parks and Recreation Department, Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group, Cherry Ridge Independent Living, Hallmark Care Center and Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon.
At Lisbon, each child were hunting for their own decorated eggs at the park, with the person who discovered theirs fastest getting a prize in their age group. Each child also received a goody bag from Lisbon Parks and Recreation Department.
