Java Jazz
Mount Vernon Swingin’ Stangs and the Mount Vernon High School jazz choirs Uptown Jazz and Lincoln Highway Jazz will perform Java Jazz tonight (Thursday, March 28) at Mount Vernon High School gymnasium. The show begins at 7 p.m., and general admission tickets are still available for $10. The show is a fundraiser for the music department.
Little Lions Track Meet
The Lisbon Girls Track team will be sponsoring the Little Lions Track Meet Sunday, April 14 from 1-3 p.m. at Lisbon track. Pre-registration cost is $25 or same day registration is $30. Rain date for the meet is Sunday, April 28.

Lions blood drive
Lisbon Schools will be hosting a community blood drive Wednesday, April 10, from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Lisbon High School Cafeteria.
Sign up by contacting Payton Donohoe at [email protected] or Morgan Kelley at [email protected]. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred. Must be 16 or older to be eligible to donate. Bring photo identification with you when donating.
Lisbon Brush Pick Up
Brush pick-up in Lisbon will be held April 1.
All items must be stacked neatly in a pile next to the curb, large cut end to the right when facing the street or placed in a container for easy dumping. Pile size: 4 foot high by 4 foot wide. No brush shall be larger than 10 inches in diameter and 8 feet long.
The city will NOT pick up piles seen to be the result of the removal of a privately owned tree. Only small branches, twigs and other debris will be picked up to be chipped.
Lisbon yard waste
Johnson County Refuse will collect yard waste April 8. Garden debris/yard waste must be placed in a rigid 35 gallon or less container and set at the curb. Grass clippings should be composted or placed in a container or yard waste bag. Any containers over 35 gallons will NOT be picked up.
Leaf Vacuuming Lisbon
Leaves in Lisbon will be collected April 8 and April 22, weather permitting.
Place leaves in a loose pile between the sidewalk and the curb, at least 10 feet from any fixed object or vehicle.
DO NOT mix leaves with garden debris.
Mount Vernon spring leaf pick-up
Mount Vernon spring leaf pickup will begin April 15 and run for two weeks through Friday, April 26. Leaves are to be raked to the curb by 7 a.m. Monday and be free of sticks, debris and other obstructions.
Uptown clean-up day
Set your calendar reminders for Saturday, April 27 for the City of Mount Vernon’s uptown clean-up day. Volunteers are needed to help spruce up the uptown from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers are urged to check in with Mount Vernon City Hall to be assigned an area and crew for the day.
Spring cemetery clean-ups
Citizens are urged to remove all decorations and flower arrangements from graves in the Mount Vernon Cemetery ahead of spring clean-up beginning the week of April 15.
Lisbon cemetery clean-up begins April 1. Residents are urged to remove decorations they want to preserve from graves that week. Decorations can be placed back on graves after April 15.
Swim lessons
The sign-up for swim lessons at Mount Vernon pool will begin in-person Monday, April 1 at 8 a.m. Registration can also be made online at mtvernon.recdesk.com and looking for pool programs. Cost is $28 for residents and $33 for non-residents. Lessons will take place throughout the month of June on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Hydrant Flushing
The City of Mount Vernon will be flushing water mains through the fire hydrants during the week of April 15. The water may become rusty or discolored but will clear up shortly after the flushing process is over.
The City of Lisbon will also be flushing hydrants in April, but a date has not yet been posted.
Street Sweeping
Street sweeping will begin April 1. Street sweeping will follow the same quadrant map that brush collection follows but the days will be different. Monday, April 1, the city will start on the NW quadrant and spend two to three days in that quadrant, then move to the NE quadrant and spend the remainder of the first week there. The week of April 8 will be designated for the south side of town. Starting Monday, April 8, sweeping will begin in the SW quadrant and take two to three days. Then sweeping will move to the SE quadrant for the remainder of the week.
