Cornell’s men’s lacrosse team rallied for four goals in the final period, although the comeback fell just short in Saturday’s 9-7 loss at Augustana.
The Rams (4-5) mounted the charge after trailing 7-3 with less than seven minutes to play in regulation. Cornell trimmed the deficit to 7-5 on back-to-back scores by Matt Norwood and Charley Kobets.
After Augustana (3-4) went back ahead 9-5, Norwood and Luke Baldwin each scored in the final 2:13 to provide the final margin.
Torii Greiskalns accounted for nine ground balls and four caused turnovers to lead the Rams. Kobets provided a team-high three goals and one assist. Baldwin and Norwood both scored twice.
Goalie Thomas Cook posted 12 saves over 60 minutes.
The Rams held a 41-39 edge in total shots and equaled the Vikings with 34 ground balls. Cornell converted 26-of-29 clear attempts.
Earlier in the week, the Rams lost 17-6 against Edgewood.
The Rams were hindered by a slow start, which saw the Eagles score the first six goals and build a 13-2 lead by halftime. Cornell played even with the home team over the final 30 minutes.
Cook collected a season-high 21 saves over 52 minutes of work. He became the second Ram to post 400 saves in a career, now with 413.
Kobets paced the Rams in scoring with three assists and one goal. He also had six ground balls.
Baldwin netted two goals, while Gavin Ravalli, Matt Norwood and Caden Lynch chipped in one apiece. Greiskalns led the team with eight ground balls and three caused turnovers.
