Linn County Community Partnerships for Protecting Children (CPPC) encourages awareness and promotes safety during Child Abuse Prevention Month
Caring connections, strong foundations, and positive experiences matter when it comes to developing healthy brains and building thriving communities. That’s why every April, Child Abuse Prevention Month, Linn County Community Partnerships for Protecting Children joins the country to rally our neighbors, business, schools, friends, and families, to help make a difference in the lives of children.
Caring and supportive relationships are the keys to strengthening social well-being, a primary indicator of overall health and essential factor in preventing child abuse and neglect. A kick-off event was held Tuesday, March 26, at Cedar Rapids Public library.
Throughout April, LCCPPC will have other events. We will have coloring contests, pinwheel planting, and to wrap up the month, Wellpoint will be hosting a day of play at local parks. Wellpoint representatives will be at area parks in the evening on 4/30 to finish out the month of raising awareness with some fun. Please check out the CPPC Facebook page to learn more about the locations of the day of play.
We encourage everyone to recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month by planting pin wheels, coloring pinwheels for window displays, supporting Project Porchlight by lighting up your porch with a blue light bulb, and/or just talking about positive ways to support our children and families in our community.
Social supports and caring connections strengthen families, mitigating the negative outcomes of childhood trauma and reduces the risk of child abuse or neglect. Connected communities have lower crime rates, better physical and mental health, and less money is spent on treating social problems. Remember prevention happens in partnership!
