Freshman Tyler Foster’s third goal of the season was certainly his biggest, propelling Cornel’s men’s lacrosse team to an 8-7 overtime victory over NAIA’s Clarke Saturday at Burrows Field.
The Rams surrendered a 7-4 lead in the fourth quarter, but were quick to answer the call in the four-minute overtime period against the Pride.
Cornell’s Ash Hoelscher won the opening faceoff in overtime and the Rams capitalized on a Clarke penalty moments later. Foster took a pass from Luke Baldwin and found the back of the net only 26 seconds into the extra period for the game-winning man-up goal.
Baldwin, Charley Kobets and Matt Norwood finished with two goals apiece to pace the Rams, who outshot the home team, 36-19. Foster and Hoelscher each had one goal. Foster and Caden Lynch added one assist each.
Junior goalie Thomas Cook recorded the complete-game victory with seven saves.
Ben Schwartz accounted for a team-high three caused turnovers and Foster led the Rams with six ground balls.
Trailing 2-0 early in the second period, Cornell answered four consecutive goals and took a 4-3 lead into intermission. The Rams went ahead 7-4 with 7:43 remaining in regulation before the Pride mounted the late rally.
