Two people were killed in a single vehicle crash along Hwy. 13 Wednesday, March 6. John Kilburg, 74, and his passenger, Donelle Kilburg, 70, of Spragueville were killed in the crash, both being announced deceased at an area hospital following the crash.
According to Sgt. James R. Gales of the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were paged to the accident at 8:42 a.m. Linn County Sheriff’s Rescue 57, Marion Police Department, Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa State Commercial Motor Vehicle, Cedar Rapids Fire Department, Area Ambulance, Lifeguard and Linn County Hazmat all responded to the scene.
A seed truck driven by Kilburg was southbound on Hwy. 13 near Travis Road. As the vehicles was driving, Klburg lost control of the vehicle and rolled the truck onto its side, spilling a degree of seed corn and debris along the roadway.
Both had to be extricated from the rolled vehicle.
Northbound traffic along Hwy. 13 was altered for roughly an hour, while southbound Hwy. 13 traffic was closed from Hwy. 100 until 10:40 a.m. while the roadway was cleaned up.
The accident remains under investigation by Linn County Sheriff’s Office.
