Monday, March 4, 2024, was the first day for partisan county candidates to file for the primary election. Democratic, Libertarian, and Republican candidates in Linn County may file nomination papers at 935 Second St. SW in Cedar Rapids. The filing deadline is Friday, March 22, at 5 p.m.
The county positions to appear on the Linn County ballot for the June 4, Primary Election are:
• Board of Supervisors – District 3 Supervisor
• Auditor
• Sheriff
Non-partisan candidates (nominated by petition) who wish to run for the Board of Supervisor District 3, Auditor, or Sheriff, on the Nov. 5 General Election ballot must file between Aug. 5 and 5 p.m. Aug. 28.
Candidates for Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner and County Agricultural Extension Council Member must file between Aug. 5 and 5 p.m. Aug. 28.
Candidates for Township Trustee and Clerk must file no later than 5 p.m. Aug. 28.

Absentee voting for the primary begins Wednesday, May 15 Primary election day is Tuesday, June 4.
