Cornell’s men’s tennis team made its spring break trip debut in South Carolina, defeating Johnson & Wales and Penn State Harrisburg by identical 8-1 scores.
The Rams (9-4) swept doubles to open the day against JWU. No. 1 pair Alexander Hadler-Strumlauf/Federico Polidori won 8-6, freshmen Mills Arnold/Trent Devore at No. 2, and Zachary Ong/August Krahn at No. 3 both won 8-4.
Hadler-Strumlauf, Polidori, Ong all posted straight set victories at No. 1, 2 & 4, while Devore and Arnold battled for third set super tiebreak wins at No. 3 & 5.
In the afternoon dual against PSU Harrisburg, the Rams again swept doubles to take a 3-0 lead. Hadler-Strumlauf/Polidori (8-4), Arnold/Devore (8-4) Ong/Krahn (8-6) all claimed their second doubles wins of the day.
Hadler-Strumlauf, Ong, Arnold, & Edwin Holyoake all posted straight set victories at No. 1, 4, 5 & 6 respectively to put the match away, Devore need a third set super breaker again to prevail in his match at No. 3. Polidori dropped his match at No. 2 in a third set tiebreak.
