Lisbon city council set a number of public hearings for March 25.
The first is a budget statement for the fiscal year 2025. That hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m., half an hour before the council meeting officially starts. As city administrator Brandon Siggins notes, that is a new requirement by the state and has to be open for 30 minutes prior to the regularly scheduled meeting.
The second and third hearing is for changes to chapter 47 and 78 of Lisbon code. Chapter 47 changes are for pavilion rate increases for the city. Chapter 78 is permit increases. Siggins noted in his memo that the city has not done any rate adjustments aside from water and sewer adjustments for more than 12 years.
“We have really fallen back from other communities in that time and need to bring some of our rates up,” Siggins wrote.
The fourth and fifth hearings scheduled for the meeting pertain to water and sewer rate increases that will go into effect July 1. Siggins noted during the budget process he would check with Maggie Burger with Speer Financial to see if there were any needed adjustments to water and sewer rates for the city.
Parks and recreation events
The Lisbon Parks and Recreation board is finishing work on an activity for Saint Patrick’s Day week for area families to participate in. Parks and recreation director Drayton Kamberling advised people to watch the social media accounts of the Lisbon Parks and Recreation department for details on that.
The board is also planning to once again host the Easter Egg hunt at Lisbon City park Saturday, March 30.
New banners being installed
The City of Lisbon will have new banners being placed on the black light poles in downtown Lisbon this spring.
The new banners are denoting Lisbon’s sesquicentennial (to be celebrated in 2025). Rickard’s Sign and Design is working on the banners to be hung up.
Siggins said the choice was to go with a black banner for these poles because when they use a blue background, it fades to a purple color in the span of a few months.
