The Lisbon Dance team showcase was Saturday, March 2, in the Lion’s Den, a capper on a stellar season for the Lisbon Dance team.
With 13 dancers on the team, including four seniors this year, the crew placed at state in the pom and kick routines back in December, and soloist Britton Mason placed ninth overall.
It’s a team that coach Amy Scallon-Geis said has been one of the most cohesive she’s ever coached.
“It’s almost like they could coach themselves after we started learning the routine, and could take the corrections we needed to make,” Scallon-Geis said.
Lisbon coach Amy Scallon-Geis noted that the seniors on this team have been her babies, having grown up at the same time as her own son Colin has.
“I’ve watched them develop at the same time as he has grown up,” Scallon-Geis said. “I’ve loved watching them become a smart, courteous and kind group of seniors, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.”
Seniors on the squad include Addy Happel, McKenna Nost, Ava Czarnecki and Kennedy Baxa.
Happel was only on the team for this one year, and her favorite memory was placing third in kick.
She plans to attend Kirkwood Community College and major in human services.
Nost was a four year member of the squad, and state soloist twice. She plans to attend Kirkwood and major in dental hygiene. Her favorite dance was the sophomore pom routine.
“My favorite memory of dance was finding out when coach Amy was pregnant and getting to meet Colin and watch him grow up,” Nost said.
Czarnecki was a four year member of the team. She will be attending Southern Illinois University where she will compete in Division I volleyball and study exercise science.
Her favorite routine was this year’s pom and her favorite memory was when Colin would come to practices.
Baxa is a four-year member of the team and will be going to the University of Iowa to study diagnostic medical coding.
Her favorite dance was last year’s jazz.
“My favorite memory was sophomore year’s squad, which was a smaller team,” Nost said. “I remember I messed up a portion of the pom routine at performance, but we still ended up winning.
