A 30 x 50 foot barn was a total loss in a rural Ely fire Tuesday, Feb. 20.
According to Linn County Sheriff Sergeant James Gales, first responders were paged to the blaze at 339 Nederheiser Road in Ely at 1:11 p.m., and multiple fire crews responded.
Crews included Ely Fire Department, Linn County Sheriff’s Rescue 57, Fairfax Fire Department, Solon Fire Department, Lisbon Fire Department, Mount Vernon Fire Department and Swisher Fire Department.
First responders discovered the outbuilding fully engulfed in flames.
Owner of the building, Charles Murray, 60, had been welding and it is believed a stray spark ignited the blaze.
No one was injured, and all animals were safe from the blaze.
