Lisbon had 11 wrestlers place top 3 at the Tri-Rivers Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 27, in Delhi.
Gavin Hove (113), Tiernan Boots (144) and Matthias Kohl (175) won titles. Hove, who wrestled junior varsity most of the year, was a surprise.
“He was just put into the varsity lineup and won a conference title,” Lisbon Coach Aaron Helmrich said. “That was real nice.”
Alburnett won the team title with 299 points, and Lisbon was runner-up (238). East Buchanan was third (188).
“The guys wrestled hard,” Helmrich said. “And even some young guys came in and got a couple wins.”
Helmrich praised 150-pound freshman Justin Snyder, who did not place, but got a win for the Lions.
Lisbon wrestled in a Class 1A regional dual on Tuesday, Jan. 30, as the postseason rolls forward.
