The third week proved to be hectic in the Iowa Senate, marking our initial full week of subcommittee and committee engagements. Given the shorter timeline in the second year of the 90th General Assembly, deadlines are approaching rapidly. Subcommittees delved into diverse subjects this week, spanning from education standards and student athletics to discussions on window tints and deer hunting. Continuing our examination of policy bills, we’re pushing forward ideas with significant support through the legislative process. Meetings remain busy, and our desks are filled with messages from constituents providing feedback on the bills under discussion. Representing you and your interests in the Iowa Senate is a privilege, and I encourage you to reach out with any questions or feedback on the important issues being addressed in the Senate.
Numerous individuals and guests were present at the Capitol this week. On Wednesday, Jan. 24, Des Moines University students and staff paid a visit, along with students from the College of Pharmacy at the University of Iowa. On Thursday, the Capitol hosted iJAG
Legislative Day, where Iowa Jobs for American Graduates (iJAG) showcased its dedication to aiding thousands of students throughout the state in preparing for successful careers. It was a delightful experience engaging with these students and educators, learning about the program’s positive effects, their achievements, and exploring how legislators can support their mission.
