On Jan. 6, the Mount Vernon Mustang Archery team traveled to Solon for the second time this season to compete in the Solon Spartan Bullseye and 3D Tournament. During this tournament, a remarkable moment occurred. Jaidyn Burge, our amazing visually impaired archer, stepped up to the 10-meter line and shot a 48 out of 50 during that round and a personal best 186. Walking up to the target, her father Ellis was grinning from ear to ear. Four arrows in the bullseye and one single arrow hitting the 8 ring. What an accomplishment.
Solon Spartan Bullseye Tournament: The elementary team had a wonderful week and finished in first place with a score of 2821. For the elementary girls, the team place firstst through sixth place. Kenlyn Grenis finish in first place with a score of 254. Rowan Gillespie (second), Natalie Ford (third), Charlynn Holtz (fourth), MaKenna Harris (fifth), and Hayden Hedges (sixth) were all medalists. For the boys, Laine Pospisil earned a 1st place finish with a 247. Anders Rasmussen (second), Charlie Studt(3rd), Jack Morgan (fourth), Nathaniel Cook (fifth), and Jack Hawker (sixth) round out the boys medalists.
For the Middle School team finished in third with a team score of 3,121. Trulie Breidinger shot a personal best 282 for earn first place. Adeline Micheel finished in sixth place with a score of 256. Paul Morris continued his excellent shooting this year to finish in first place for the middle school boys with a 284. Jake Shady shot a personal best 277 for a second place finish.
The High School had a team score of 3196 and finished in fourth place. Nathan Nederhiser finished in fifth place with a score of 286 while Ean Grudzinski shot a 284 for a sixth place finish.
Solon Spartan 3D Tournament:The Middle School and High School teams competed in the 3D tournament with the middle schoolers finishing in third place and the high schoolers finishing in fourth place. Makenna Harris and Nathaniel Cook both shot individually during the tournaments and both finished in 1st place! Finn Plattner finished in first place for the middle school boys while Wes Haskell finished in fifth. Trulie Breidinger had a great tournament and finished in first place with a 266.
