Lisbon went 4-1 in duals during the week, then sent the squad to two different tournament Saturday, Jan. 20.
On Tuesday, Jan. 16, No. 11 Lisbon beat No. 10 Wapsie Valley, 39-32, but got humbled by No. 3 Don Bosco, 58-18, in Gilbertville.
The Dons are the top-ranked tournament team in 1A, and have seven ranked wrestlers.
At 106 pounds, No. 1 Hayden Schwab topped Lisbon’s No. 3 West Sadler, 8-3. At 165 pounds, No. 4 Andrew Kimball edged Lisbon’s No. 10 Matthias Kohl, 4-2. Both wrestlers bounced back with ranked wins against Wapsie Valley Sadler beat No. 7 Kaiden Belinsky 7-2, and Kohl topped No. 9 Garrett Miller 5-1.
No. 6 Tiernan Boots was the only double winner on the night for the Lions, recording a pair of pins.
On Thursday, Jan. 18, Lisbon enjoyed three convincing wins in Coggon. The Lions beat Midland, 72-10, topped North Cedar, 78-6, and stuffed North Linn, 72-12.
Boots and Jonah Reiling (285) both went 3-0 with three pins.
On Saturday, Jan. 20, most of the Lions went to the Rich Gray Invitational in Truro.
The Lions finished second at the 21-team event. Wilton was the team champion.
Boots was the only Lion on top of the awards stand. He beat Ty Solverson of Boone in the semifinals, 3-2, and Jordan Dusenberry of Wilton, 7-4, in the championship.
Kohl was runner-up, and Sadler and Reiling were third.
The Lions also competed at the John Byers Invitational in Wyoming. Cael Stricker (106) and Gavin Hove (113) finished in fifth.
