A minor fire occurred at Mount Vernon High School Friday, Jan. 19. The fire occurred in a mechanical room and was quickly extinguished. The building suffered a power outage because of the fire.
No one was injured and students were safely evacuated. High school students were dismissed for the day with the power outage. Students who ride the bus were allowed to wait in the commons until the school day dismissed.
A number of activities tonight (Friday, Jan. 19) and Saturday, Jan. 20 are impacted.
The girls’ basketball game against West Delaware scheduled for this evening will not be held at Mount Vernon High School.
JV Girls Basketball will be at West Delaware starting at 5 p.m. and they will play two quarters.
Varsity girls basketball will be at West Delaware starting at 6 p.m.
All boys basketball games will be played as originally scheduled at West Delaware (ninth @ 4:30 p.m., 10th @ 6 p.m., and Varsity @ 7:15 p.m.).
Large Group Speech buses will leave from the Middle School parking lot Saturday morning instead. Departure time is the same.
The buses for junior varsity and varsity wrestling will also leave from the Middle School Saturday, Jan.20. Departure time is the same.
The district is still working on a plan for the girls’ basketball game versus Marion that is scheduled for Saturday afternoon/evening. More details will be sent on this as they are available
