The Cornell women’s basketball team won its’ fourth conference game of the year to sit firmly in second place of the Midwest Conference after a 66-54 win over Lake Forest on Saturday.
Just behind Ripon (8-6, 5-0 MWC) in the MWC standings, the Rams (6-7, 4-1 MWC) took care of the Foresters (2-11, 1-4 MWC) at home behind a career performance from Heidi Jorgensen to take sole possession of second place.
The freshman guard from Manti, Utah set a new career-high after dropping 18 points in 32 minutes of play. She made four of the Rams’ nine three pointers while going six of eight from the free throw line.
As a team, the Rams caused 27 turnovers while collecting 10 steals. Senior Kali March finished with four of those steals while collecting nine points.
The Rams now have six consecutive wins over the Foresters.
Earlier in the week, the Rams won against North Central 61-56.
Cornell held North Central below its season scoring average by nearly 20 points and limited the guests to 35.1 percent shooting from the floor and 20 percent from beyond three-point range.
Cornell secured a season-high 20 steals with eight different players registering at least two. A 21-4 advantage in points off of turnovers was the difference maker for the Rams.
Seniors Kali March and Ani’ja Simmons led the team with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Senior Rachael Adewusi and junior Randi Wright saw the court after some time out with injury, combining for 14 points.
A hot fourth quarter secured the win for the Rams as they shot 60.0 percent from the floor and converted nine points from the free-throw line.
Caitlyn Ryan led North Central with 14 points and seven rebounds.
