Cornell’s women’s wrestling team came away with one champion and two other placewinners at the NUWAY College Open Saturday inside the UNI-Dome.
First-year Grace Fort pinned both of her opponents to capture the 191-pound championship. She decked Central Florida’s Katherine Meza in 2:42 in the opening round. Fort then defeated Wartburg’s Emersen Smith by fall in 2:27 to take the title.
Sophomore 130-pounder Cheyenne Mulford finished third in her bracket with a 2-3 record. She recorded pins over Wartburg’s Emma Hermann (1:08) and Hadley Boshart (1:18).
Sophomore Olivia Cotton took fifth out of nine wrestlers in the 143-pound class. She finished the day with a pair of wins, including a quarterfinal pin in only 49 seconds over Missouri Baptist’s Dymeria Guillory.
Coming up – The Rams host the Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational Saturday, Jan. 13 in the arena of the Small Athletic and Wellness Center. Action gets underway at 9 a.m.
