Class 2A No. 2 Mount Vernon gathered five more dual victories, then lost to Class 3A No. 5 Linn-Mar this week.
On Thursday in Grinnell, the Mustangs blanked Center Point-Urbana, 81-0, and defeated Grinnell, 63-15.
Then Saturday at the Linn-Mar Duals, No. 2 Mount Vernon beat No. 16 (3A) Clear Creek Amana, 45-24, then topped Marion, 65-12, and Western Dubuque, 57-12, before falling in the championship to the Lions, 41-27.
Klayten Perreault (106) and Jase Jaspers (126/138) both went 5-0 with five pins plus a forfeit. Ethan Wood (215/285) had four wins and two forfeits. Henry Ryan (170) went 4-0 on Saturday.
