Caucuses will be in Iowa Monday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. for both the Democratic and Republican parties, with in-person meetings for both. Doors open at 6 p.m., with the caucus beginning at 7 p.m.
The Linn County Democrats will be holding the 2024 In-Person Iowa Democratic Party caucuses, and locally many precincts will caucus in the Mount Vernon High School Commons. Those precincts include Mount Vernon 1 and Mount Vernon 2, Franklin Township residents (which includes Lisbon), Bertram Township, Brown-Linn Townships and Putnam Townships.
The Iowa Democratic party is encouraging all Democrats who are planning to attend or unable to attend in person to participate in the Iowa Democratic Party Caucus at https://IowaDemocrats.org/Caucus/ by requesting their Presidential Preference Card. Iowa Democrats can request their Presidential Preference Card now through Feb. 19.
Only registered Iowa Democrats who are eligible to vote in the Nov. 5, 2024, election may participate in the Democratic Caucus. Iowans must be registered as a Democrat by Feb. 19. Iowa law prohibits participating in more than one political party’s caucuses.
At in-person precinct caucuses, the party will conduct traditional party business. The Democratic party will elect unbound delegates and alternate delegates to county conventions, elect county central committee members and discuss platform resolutions that can be shared at county conventions. No presidential preference will be taken at the in-person precinct caucuses.
The results of the mail-in presidential preference will be released March 5.
Republican caucusThe Linn County Republican caucuses will be held Monday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the caucuses.
The caucuses will perform the following functions – elect Republican residents of the precincts to serve on the county central committee and elect delegates and alternate delegates for the Linn County Republican Convention Saturday, Feb. 17.
Bertram Township’s caucus will be at Prairie Point Middle School at 8015 Kirkwood Blvd. S.W., where four precinct members and four county delegates will be selected.
Brown and Linn Township will be at Springville High School in Springville, where two precinct members and one county delegate will be selected.
Franklin Township (which includes Lisbon) will be at Lisbon High School, where three precinct members and four county delegates will be selected.
Mount Vernon 1 and Mount Vernon 2 will hold their caucus at Mount Vernon High School’s Performing Arts Center. Mount Vernon 1 will select two precinct members and two county delegates, while Mount Vernon 2 will select two precinct members and one county delegate.
Putnam Township will caucus at Saint John’s Church in Ely, where they will select three precinct members and four county delegates.
Registration can happen for either caucus on caucus night.
Remember to bring a valid form of ID with you on Caucus night, which includes:
• Iowa Voter Identification Card
• Iowa Driver’s License
• Iowa Non-Operator ID
• U.S. Military ID or Veteran ID
• U.S. Passport
• Tribal ID Card/Document
If you plan to register to vote at your precinct location on caucus night, remember to bring the following:
• A valid form of ID, as listed above
• A proof of address (e.g. residential lease, utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check, property tax statement, government document, etc.)
