Palisades-Kepler held a New Year’s Day hike Monday, Jan. 1, from noon to 2 p.m.
The trails around Palisades Kepler saw much heavier foot traffic on the day as part of the hike, as more than 70 people participated in the New Year’s Day hike, including several four legged on leash friends.
Following the hike, Friends of the Palisades Kepler State Park had hot cocoa, s’mores, hot dogs and other items available in the lodge, as well as a fire going to help people warm up.
Numbers were down slightly compared to last year’s New Year’s hike, which organizers noted was due to the Iowa Hawkeyes taking part in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl Jan. 1.
