Eleven Mount Vernon middle and high school students were selected for the Northeast Iowa Bandmaster’s Association Honor Band, held Saturday Dec. 2, at Oelwein High School. Eighth Graders selected were Isla Novak, clarinet; Fiona Calcarra, clarinet; Hagen Wilkins, trombone; Dottie Korte, tenor sax; Zion Safo, trumpet, Marlena Rodenberg, bassoon, and Avery Miller, flute. High school students selected were Marin Denes, alto sax; Gabe Mahoney, trumpet; Willa Turner, clarinet; and Grant Tucker, bass clarinet.
The Northeast Iowa Bandmaster’s Association Honor Band is the highest honor a band student can be nominated for in this district. These students were selected from nominations by over 65 band directors and schools in Northeast Iowa for showing excellence in musicality and leadership in their school band programs.
