The Lisbon girls’ basketball team upset No. 12 Marquette, 40-34, on Tuesday, Dec. 5 in Bellevue.
The loss dropped the Mohawks out of the 1A rankings a few days later.
“I have a lot of confidence in the game of basketball,” Lisbon Coach Nate Hutcheson said. “And the girls have really taken to coaching and tried to learn, and are doing everything we’ve asked.
“If they are going to be like that, which is awesome, then we will see a lot of growth.”
Freshman Morgan Sauser led the Lions with 15 points. The Lions cut their turnovers down to 12 and despite being undersized, battled for rebounds.
“The girls have bought in on defense and are doing a really good job,” Hutcheson said. Marquette came in averaging 60 points per game. “They kept some of their top scorers to lower numbers than they are used to.”
Lisbon (2-4) then lost to Springville, 52-31, on Thursday, Dec. 7, in Lisbon.
The Lions shot just 19.2 percent from the field (10 of 52), including 14.8 percent from the arc (4 of 27).
Kamryn Kahl led the scoring with nine points.
