The Cornell women’s wrestling team competed in the North Central College Invitational Sunday for the last competition before the new year.
The North Central Invite was the largest tournament the women’s wrestling team competed in this season with 34 total teams, including seven nationally-ranked by the National Wrestling Coaches Association with Iowa (1), North Central (2), Gannon (11), Aurora (12), UW-Stevens Point (T-15), Lindenwood (T-18) and Augsburg (T-18). Host North Central finished first with 177 points followed by Providence (106.5), Campbellsville (99), and Aurora (71.0).
The Rams scored 10 team points and took 26th overall.
Six wrestlers competed for the Rams with Isabella Moore (123 pounds), Cheyenne Mulford (130), Kara Rivard (136), Olivia Cotton (143), Emma Stevenson (170), and Grace Fort (191). The Rams received points from Cotton, Mulford, and Stevenson.
Mulford’s win came in the second round of consolations where she pinned Avery Reyes of Iowa Central Community in 4:57. Cotton picked up two wins on the day on two technical falls. She defeated Olga Turiy of Aurora 12-2 and Nahomi Marmolejo of Adrian, 10-0. Stevenson’s win came in a pin over Ashleigh McLane of Davenport in 1:44.
