Pajama Storytime at
the Library December 12Pinhook Players Amy White and Kim Benesh will present a special Pajama Story Time in Heritage Hall at Lisbon Public Library, 101 East Main Street, Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 6:30 PM. Wear your PJs if you choose and join us for a holiday-themed story and a puppet show! Pinhook Players are members of Mount Vernon Lisbon Community Theatre who want to create free live theatre experiences for a young audience. All children and their caregivers are welcome at this event.
Lisbon’s second annual 24-hour community theater festival Saturday, Dec. 9 Lisbon will be hosting the second annual 24-hour community theater festival Friday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 9. Writers will work on their script from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, while cast and directors will work on practicing and getting the plays ready to perform 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., including blocking and lighting. The community is invited to attend and see the final performances at the Lisbon Auditorium Saturday evening at 7 p.m. The festival is open to eighth grade students and above, and draws from several schools in the Lisbon and Mount Vernon area to participate. Cocoa and carolsSts Peter and Paul Chapel in rural Solon will be hosting their carol sing along Sunday, Dec. 10, beginning at 5 p.m. After carols, attendees are encouraged to stop down to the fellowship hall for cocoa and refreshments and a chance to see Santa Claus. Sts Peter and Paul Chapel is located at 1165 Taft Avenue Solon and can be reached by following Sutliff Road Northeast towards Solon and turning on Taft Avenue, or turning on 120th Street NE with the intersection of Hwy. 1 and heading east towards Taft Avenue.
Lisbon schools hosting holiday spirit weekLisbon Schools will be hosting a holiday spirit week, with dress up themes throughout the holidays. Monday, Dec. 18’s dress up theme is Merry Monday – wear red and green. Tuesday is holiday movie Tuesday and people are encouraged to dress up like their favorite holiday movie or book character. Wednesday is Santa’s Workship imposter Wednesday where people are encouraged to dress like someone who works or lives in the North Pole. Thursday is what not to wear Thursday, with attendees encouraged to dress in their ugliest holiday gear. Friday, Dec. 22 is Night Before Christmas Friday, with attendees encouraged to wear their holiday pajamas.
Lisbon holiday paradeLisbon will be holding a Christmas parade and hot cocoa event Thursday, Dec. 21.
The parade will start at 5 p.m. and go from the intersection of Jackson Street and Main Street to the intersection of Walnut Street and Main Street. If anyone would like to participate or have a float in the parade, contact [email protected] or call at 319-231-4991.
After the parade, attendees are encouraged to come get photos taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus at Lisbon Fire Department from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Christmas goodie bags will also be handed out at the event by members of Lisbon Parks and Recreation.
A bake sale will also be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Lisbon City Hall with hot cocoa, coffee and cider available, plus other baked goods from Southeast Linn Community Center for a free-will donation.
Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department public entrance reopenedWith work completed for the first phase of the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department remodel, the public entrance has reopened on the west side of the building, accessible by using the driveway off of First Street West.
Des Moines Irish Session returns to Heritage HallOn Sunday, December 17 at 2 p.m, musicians Ed Fallon, Mark Bro, Anna English, Kathy “Murph” Revell, Jon Duvick and perhaps a few more will play Irish music in Heritage Hall (the second floor of the library). This time last year the audience for this group, who call themselves the Des Moines Irish Session, was standing room only in the Hall.
