The Cornell women’s wrestling team had a dominant showing at the Buena Vista University Open in Storm Lake on Saturday after a three-week hiatus.
Olivia Cotton secured first place at 143 pounds after she won each of her three matches on 10-0 tech falls. Cotton’s three technical falls were the most of any wrestler in the tournament.
Cheyenne Mulford (136) and Emma Stevenson (170) both recorded their first wins of the season in the tournament.
Mulford went 4-1 on the day for a first-place finish after three pins and one decision. Stevenson placed fourth after going 2-3 on the day, with a technical fall and an injury default.
Grace Fort, at 191 pounds, recorded a pair of pins within one minute each for first place. Bralyyn Wagler placed second at 235 after she went 3-1 on the day with three pins.
Chloe Loyd pinned one of her opponents in 19 seconds as she went 4-1 on the day. She totaled two pins, a technical fall, and a forfeit for second place at 116.
Isabella Moore placed second at 123 and Kara Rivard placed fifth at 136.
The Rams finished with the most pins in the five-team field which consisted of Dubuque, Central, Iowa Lakes, and Buena Vista. The Rams finished first in team points after tremendous performances all around.
