Happy Daze held a ribbon cutting Tuesday, Nov. 28, at their location in uptown Mount Vernon at 100 Second Avenue N.W.
Caden Lowe, co-owner of the shop, said the business had opened in Mount Vernon during the last weekend in November.
Lowe and his brother, Carter, were looking to establish a vape and smoke shop closer to home.
The duo were born in Cedar Rapids, and most of their family is in the area.
“We had first looked at potentially opening our shop in Monticello, but the seller Up in Smoke was expanding into that direction,” Caden said. “We looked at a map, and found there was a territory in Mount Vernon that could cater to a new audience.”
Caden said the store has seen a strong level of support in the first month of being open. They offer nicotine dispensers, edible CBD products, alternative tobacco products and similar products.
The shop is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Saturday.
Lowe noted he got started smoking at age 14 and was addicted. At 18, he switched to using smokeless products like vapes.
“I truly believe that vapes are healthier than smoking products,” Caden said. “It’s still not as healthy as not smoking, but I haven’t had the lung irritation and coughing I was having with cigarettes and other smoke products.”
Lowe said that the business has had good foot traffic, with more customers stopping in every day.
