The City of Lisbon was recently awarded a $11,900 grant for prairie reconstruction at Pleasant Grove Heritage Park through the State’s REAP City Parks & Open Spaces program. Funds will be used to reconstruct 10 acres of diverse tallgrass prairie within the new park, creating a more enjoyable green space for community residents and visitors/tourists for recreation and nature study, and connecting visitors to Iowa’s natural heritage. The reconstructed prairie will also contribute to improved water quality in the greater Cedar River watershed, and enhance wildlife habitat, particularly for insects and songbirds, both of which are in decline. Work on the project will begin in May 2024.
This project is being undertaken as part of the early development of Pleasant Grove Heritage Park, an Emerging Partner Site with the Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area.
