Lisbon Schools held induction of new members into their National Honor Society Chapter at a ceremony Thursday, Oct. 26.
Inductees into the chapter this year inclued Aislin Andrews, Brynn Epperly, Kaitlynn Hasselbusch, Faith Miller, Addison Petersen, Allison Silver and Blake Stejskal.
Current members Kennedy Baxa, Cole Butteris, Cadence Dighton, Payton Donohoe, Maeve Krogmann, Sophia Roberts and Ryan Ross read portions of the qualities that National Honor Society likes to see from it’s members before the presentation of pins and certificates. Inductees also recited the pledge at the induction ceremony.
To be eligible for membership consideration, students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5. Additionally, potential members must meet high standards of leadership, service, and character, having logged hours for Silver Cord. Members of the junior and senior classes at Lisbon who expressed interest in joining NHS were evaluated by the faculty council.
To apply, applicants were required to collect five references, and provide the council with a resume and an essay explaining why they were a qualified candidate for NHS.
Nominees were selected based on strengths in leadership in the classroom and extracurricular activities, volunteer hours in the community, and the strength of their character. Character is measured in terms of integrity, behavior, ethics, and cooperation with both students and faculty.
Students are screened by a faculty council consisting of members of the faculty chosen by the principal.
A piano solo was provided by Bryce Boots and secondary principal Jack Leighty reminded students of the importance of leadership, character and service.
A reception with cake and punch was held after. Members were part of the volunteers helping with Halloweentown in downtown Lisbon Oct. 31, and their next project will be a hat and mitten drive for Lisbon Schools. After that, adviser Amelia Kibbie said the club will determine their own projects.
