Mount Vernon Lions Club
The Mount Vernon Lions Club met on Monday, Oct. 23, at the Cornell Commons. There were two guests introduced, Amie Roberts, the new director of the Mount Vernon School District Foundation and Phil Larabee from the Monticello Lions Club. Bernadette Lane introduced the speaker for the night, Nicole McAlexander, the head of Southeast Linn Community Center. Nicole talked about the great variety of programs sponsored by the center and volunteer activities that they need help with. In the last fiscal year the center assisted more than 250 households in the Mount Vernon/Lisbon area through their food pantry.
The next Lions Club meeting in November will feature a presentation by the Mount Vernon/Lisbon ambulance service.
Mount Vernon Trailblazers 4-H Club
The Mount Vernon Trailblazers 4-H club held their monthly meetings Oct 8. The club volunteered at Krouls Farm before the meeting from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Barnyard Buddies 4-H club were also there volunteering. Both clubs picked gourds, and pumpkins.
The clubs meeting started at 4pm at the Mt. Vernon fire station. Committees met together first.
The community service committee talked about upcoming volunteer service dates for the year.
Fundraising committee mentioned the meat sales would be starting soon. Education/Recreation committee talked about the idea of doing a bags tournament and having a little fire pit after the next meeting.The club also talked about this years “Adopt a Family” for the holidays. The club leaders also reminded members that record books are due to the Linn County Extension 4-H office by October 16. Leaders also mentioned an officer training on November 11th in Monticello. The club’s next meeting will be November 5, moved up to the first week of November due to the county awards program Nov. 12.
