The city council and school board elections are coming up Tuesday, Nov. 7. Polling locations will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day.
Deadline to request an absentee ballot has already passed, and early-in person voting ends Monday, Nov. 6, at 5 p.m. Absentee ballots must be received by Linn county election services by close to f the polls on election day to be considered for counting.
A reminder that voters on election day will be asked to provide ID to vote. These are the valid forms of ID:
• Iowa Voter Identification Card (needs to be signed)
• Iowa Driver’s License
• Iowa Non-Operator ID
• U.S. Military ID or Veteran ID
• U.S. Passport
• Tribal ID Card/Document
A voter without one of the above forms of ID may have their identity verified by another registered voter in the precinct.
For Mount Vernon 1 voters (those located on the north portion of Mount Vernon), the polling location will be Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Mount Vernon 2 voters will report to the basement of Mount Vernon City Hall.
Franklin Township (that includes the city of Lisbon) votes at Lisbon City Hall.
On the ballotsLisbon mayor candidate is Doug O’Connor.
Lisbon City Council candidates are Kevin Steele and incumbent John Bardsley for the two seats in that election.
Mount Vernon mayor candidate is Tom Wieseler.
Mount Vernon City council candidates include incumbents Scott Rose and Craig Engel, as well as Mark Andresen.
Mount Vernon School board has nine candidates racing for four seats. Those candidates include incumbent Jeremy Kunz, Suzette Kragenbrink, Michael Brannaman, Tim Keegan, Kristin Elise Meyer, Doug Plotz, Nathan Wolter, Jason Clark and Greg Papin. Incumbent Lance Schoff is running unopposed for the spot to fill a vacancy on the school board.
For Mount Vernon residents, there is a measure asking to continue a levy for the emergency services equipment levy utilized by the Mount Vernon Fire Department. That is not a new tax, but a continuation on collecting a levy already in place that benefits the fire department.
Lisbon school board has incumbents John Prasil and Jen Caspers running again, as well as write-in candidates Robyn Aaron and John Baker vying for the three seats on the school board.
Rural Lisbon residents (especially those who reside in Cedar County) will see a measure for Cedar County’s Public Measure DO to authorize a levy for the new countywide ambulance service being proposed in the county.
