The Linn County Food Systems Council will host a food symposium Oct. 27 at the ISU Extension and Outreach Office in Hiawatha. The food symposium is a dynamic event aimed at fostering collaboration among producers, procurers (buyers), and food processors in Linn County. The symposium will explore the concept of nourishing our community through sustainable food systems, highlighting the vital role of sustainability in agriculture, local sourcing, and the contributions of food processors in creating thriving, healthy communities. Registration is required. The registration fee is $10 per person.
“One of Linn County’s goals in our Sustainability Plan is to support local food systems and farmers. This event helps us bring together those working in our local food system to better understand how Linn County and our partners can better support and ensure we have thriving food networks right here in Linn County,” said Sustainability Director Tamara Marcus.
The half-day workshop features local speakers who are committed to driving positive change within our food systems. Attendees can expect engaging discussions, insightful presentations, and ample networking opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals dedicated to advancing sustainable food practices.
“We are thrilled to host the upcoming food symposium and to provide a unique platform for forging connections, exchanging valuable experiences, and collectively working towards a more resilient local food system in Linn County and its neighboring areas,” said Emmaly Renshaw, chair of the Linn County Food Systems Council.
