Cornell had a solid showing at the Midwest Conference Women’s Tennis Individual Tournament, turning in four singles semifinalists, a pair of consolation singles champions and three doubles semifinalists.
All seven Rams who competed won at least one match over the two-day event.
No. 1 singles saw Tansy Graves beat Lawrence 6-1, 6-4 in the quarterfinals to face Lake Forest in the semifinals. She fell 0-6, 6-0, 6-0 after taking the first set.
The Rams saw two sweeps in the quarterfinals round as Mac Graves at No. 2 won 6-0, 6-0 against Illinois College, and Makayla Johnson did the same against Lawrence at No. 5 singles.
The third-seeded Mac Graves lost in the semifinals 6-0, 6-2 to Lake Forest. Johnson lost to top-seeded No. 5 singles champion Isa Voinescu of Grinnell, 6-2, 6-0, in the semifinals.
At No. 3 singles, fourth-seeded Audrey Small won a three-set thriller against Illinois College 6-4, 2-6, 10-4 to move on to the semifinals. She then fell 6-2, 6-0 to the eventual champion from Lake Forest, Kristen Ahn.
Freshman Isabella Wallin won her consolations championship match at No. 4 singles, 8-1 over Monmouth. She made her comeback after falling in a competitive match 2-6. 6-0, 10-7 to Lawrence in the quarterfinals.
Senior Ashley Mink at No. 6 singles secured the consolation championship match in an 8-4 win over Ripon. She reached the consolation finals after dropping a hard-fought quarterfinals match to Lawrence 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 10-5.
In the doubles’ quarterfinals, the Rams won each match at No.1, No. 2, and No. 3 doubles to all reach the semifinals.
In the semifinals, the No. 1 doubles team of Mac Graves and Johnson and the No. 2 pair of Tansy Graves and Mink both fell to the eventual champions from Grinnell
No. 1 doubles fell 8-2 while No. 2 doubles lost 8-1 in the semifinals. Day 2 wrapped up with No. 3 doubles team Small and Reagan Hines falling 8-7 (7-3) against Lake Forest.
