Mount Vernon and Lisbon will see events that host ghouls and goblins starting this weekend.
Washington Elementary Teachers and Parents will be hosting a fall bash at Bass Farms Saturday, Oct. 21. Lawn games, pumpkin slide, hayrack rides and an outdoor movie are some of the events at the event. Admission is free for Washington Elementary students and their families and the event runs from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 22, sees the return of Wellness Coalition of Rural Linn County’s Trunk or Treat event at the Lester Buresh Family Community Wellness Center.
The event will be held rain or shine at the center. In case of rain, the event will move indoors and runs from 2 to 4 p.m. and gives kids an opportunity to wear their Halloween costumes and trick or treat in a safe fashion.
Businesses, organizations and individuals are invited to participate by hosting a Halloween decorated trunk and to pass out treats. Pre-register your decorated vehicle by Friday, October 20. If you have questions, contact Kassy Rice at [email protected] for more information.
The event is also sponsored by the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department, who will collect any expired medications that need to be disposed of.
Additional activities will be available inside the LBC during the event.
Donate canned goods to benefit the Southeast Linn community Center or needed feminine hygiene products to benefit the Mount Vernon High School’s Caring Closet as well.
Living Hope Global Methodist Church will be hosting a fall festival open house Sunday, Oct. 29, from 3-5 p.m.
Cookies and cocoa, trick or treating and pumpkin decorating are on the agenda for the day. The church is located at 200 E. Market Street, Lisbon.
The other huge event for Mount Vernon and Lisbon is Halloweentown, which will again return in person from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, in downtown Lisbon.
Lisbon parks and recreation director Drayton Kamberling is still looking for volunteers willing to assist with setting up during the day, running the games and tearing down afterward. If you can volunteer, let staff at city hall at 319-213-4991 know.
Due to the water main construction project, decoration of city streets is being slightly delayed, but the request to close the streets in front of uptown businesses was approved at the Oct. 9 city council meeting.
Southeast Linn Community Center will also run their Halloweentown Soup Supper from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at SELCC.
Trick or treating hours will run from 5-8 p.m. in Mount Vernon and Lisbon Tuesday, Oct. 31. If you are handing out candy, leave a porch light on.
