The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Childcare Solutions group will be holding a meeting Friday, Oct. 6, at 8 am. at Mount Vernon City Hall.
The meeting will be discussing the options for childcare support in the community, and be led by Sheri Penney with Iowa Women’s Foundation. Mount Vernon and Lisbon being chosen to receive money from the American Rescue Plan Act for wage enhancement, recruitment and retention of child care providers in the community. The community can help with fundraising from now through Oct. 30, with the committee in the process of securing a dollar-for-dollar match for all funds collected from now until Oct. 30.
In 2022, survey respondents in Mount Vernon and Lisbon reported that only 43.1 percent of families in the area were able to find affordable, quality child care that met their family’s needs. The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Childcare solution group was formed to help solve the problem of the childcare desert in these two communities, with partners from many different organizations in the community working together on the solution.
