Cornell men’s soccer freshmen Edu Aldrete Calderon and Erwann Hiernaux each scored their first career goals in the Rams’ 3-0 shutout win over Midwest Conference opponent Lawrence on Saturday.
Both Calderon’s and Hiernaux’s goals came in the second half, at the 78- and 88-minute mark respectively.
Junior Aidan Lerch moved his season assists total to four with a busy match that consisted of two assists, seven shots, and four shots on goal. Lerch set up freshman Sam Burmeister at 5:35 in the first half and Calderon in the second for their goals.
The Rams had continuous momentum in the match and never surrendered it as they outshot the Vikings, 29-11, for the most shots in a game this season. Ten different Rams had at least one shot in the win, with six having multi-shot games.
Sophomore goalkeeper Floris Huiskers was credited with the shutout win after saving seven shots in 90 minutes of play.
Earlier in the week, Cornell picked up a 3-0 win against Central Dutch.
The Rams set the tone early against Central, thanks to a pair of quick strikes from George Archer in the opening 15 minutes. Archer booted home a penalty kick just 2 minutes, 17 seconds into the contest. Not long after, first-year Fox Wight assisted Archer for another score that pushed the Rams ahead 2-0.
Junior Gaurab Khadka added some insurance for the Rams at the 69-minute mark, scoring on an assist from Floris Huiskers. It was Khadka’s fourth goal of the fall.
Huiskers worked all 90 minutes in net to earn the team’s first shutout of the season. The sophomore registered five saves.
The Rams accounted for 11 of their 14 total shots in the first half. Archer finished with five attempts. Khadka, Aidan Lerch and Mohamed Abdelrahman added two shots apiece.
