Representing this year’s Lisbon Homecoming court are Kennedy Baxa, Morgan Kelley, McKenna Nost, Maeve Krogmann, Addy Happel, Cole Butteris, Ryan Ross, Teague Krob, Indy Harbaugh and Matthias Kohl.
Thursday’s dress up theme is Barbie vs. Ken Day for all grades. Homecoming King and Queen votes are cast during the day. The music boosters will hold a soup supper from 5 to 7:30 p.m., and the home volleyball match against Marquette begins at 5:15 p.m.
Friday’s theme day is Spirit Day for all grades. The high school will have an early out release for homecoming activities including class tug of war and boys’ volleyball games, followed by a pep rally in the Lions’ Den. Coronation is at 6:10 p.m., recognition of alumni hall of fame inductees immediately follows coronation and the Homecoming game against Wapello begins at 7 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 30 includes a home ninth-grade and sophomore volleyball tournament starting at 8:30 a.m. and a junior volleyball tournament at Anamosa beginning at 9 a.m. The band participates in Bands Across the Prairie in Cedar Rapids and the cross country team is running at the Wartburg Invite.
Homecoming dance begins at the school at 8 p.m.

Thursday’s theme is neon day. The evening includes the Mount Vernon High School parade, beginning at 6 p.m. Line up for the parade begins at First Street Community Center Field at 5:30 p.m. The parade proceeds from First Street Community Center and ends at the high school and the new Martha Parsons and Family Activity Complex. The route for the parade this year goes from the First Street Community Center west up First Street to Third Avenue, where the parade will proceed to the south down Palisades Road and then down Palisades Road and ending at the high school entrance.
The school is also hosting a grand opening for the Martha Parsons and Family Activities Complex this evening (Thursday, Sept. 28).
A ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. at the new complex, followed by the homecoming Coronation and Powder Puff football game.
If you are planning on attending the grand opening ceremony but not the parade, please be parked and in the new complex by 6:30 p.m.
If you are attending the parade and the grand opening activities, please proceed in a timely fashion to the school district campus and follow the directions of those directing traffic.
Here are several helping hints to make the ceremonies enjoyable for everyone:
• As stated above, please carefully follow the directions provided by those who are directing traffic.
• Please do not park in any areas designated as “No Parking,” and please do not park in any areas that are not typically used for parking (e.g., grassy areas on the campus).
• If parking in the Stonebrook neighborhood or other adjacent neighborhoods please do not park in designated “No Parking” areas, please do not block driveways, please do not park in driveways without permission from the homeowner, and please do not cross through the yards of homeowners in order to get to the new complex. Please remain on the paths that lead from two different points from the Stonebrook neighborhood to the complex.
• Once in and around the complex, please remain out of any areas that have been roped off. These areas will be in the process of being landscaped, and need to remain free of pedestrian traffic.
• Please do not come on to the track or field unless you have been given permission to do so. Please remain in the areas designated for use by visitors that evening.
• Golf carts and ATVs are not allowed on the walking trails in and around the complex.
Friday’s theme is Mustang Spirit Day. The morning has the reception for the inductees into the Mount Vernon Alumni Hall of Fame in the Performing Arts Center beginning at 9 a.m. The evening concludes with a football game against Davenport Assumption. The game will be played at Armstrong Field at the Martha Parsons and Family Activity Complex.
As is tradition, the Mount Vernon Alumni Hall of Fame inductees will be honored at halftime of the football game, and the Marching Mustangs will again take the field to perform their show, Immortal.
Saturday sees the marching band competing at Cedar Rapids Prairie High school, the volleyball team on the road to Waverly-Shell Rock for a tournament and the cross country runners taking part in a cross country meet at Wartburg College. The homecoming dance is scheduled for 9 p.m. at Mount Vernon High School.
