You may have noticed a new byline on our sports stories in this and last week’s issue.
Trent Bowman moved on to another job locally at the beginning of September. He helped us through Labor Day and left on good terms.
We put out an advertisement for the position and had an interview with Ryan Suchomel before Labor Day weekend and made an offer.
And he hit the ground running the next week, starting with Mount Vernon’s football game Friday evening, and then contacting coaches over the weekend for the other sports.
And his first comments about these communities is something everyone who lives here already knows – We don’t have any weak athletic programs in the community. Even the losses some of these teams face, they bounce back in the same week.
He is mindful of the hours he has and using those for the best impact for our sports pages/coverage and is already working to bring back things like schedules, standings and other items now and in the future on the pages.
I’m excited with him starting and hitting the ground running, especially having a co-worker who tells me where my help is needed to make sure we have coverage of our area sports teams by being at a game to get photographs, especially because sports writing is not my strong suit.
