Lisbon Schools is looking at an Oct. 2 soft opening of Lisbon Early Childcare Center West’s location.
Superintendent Autumn Pino said that staff is currently working on finishing the checklist for the license for the daycare center, with a few more items needed.
“The office is ready to go over there, and the turf is down and sign is up at the location,” Pino said.
A meeting will be held in the coming weeks to go over final needs for the site and start the transition of staff from one location to another.
Pino said the daycare center is currently eyeing being open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the center will care for primarily infant through 2-year-old children, with LECC East focusing on preschool through school age children.
The big issue for the daycare at the moment is finding additional staffing, especially for short shifts in early morning and afternoons (before and after school starts).
School board member Robyn Richey asked if there was any concern with closing the center at 5 p.m.
Pino said that was because most families were requesting 4 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. pick up times.
With a recreation room that is able to expand, Pino said that the center can adjust to what the community needs when it comes to childcare options.
Pino said the waitlist for the new center has seen continued interest and is being handled by a devoted staff member who evaluates those applications and the available openings.
Pino also said the work from Mount Vernon-Lisbon’s Early Childcare Solutions Group and the fundraising they are doing will be beneficial to funding for staffing of the daycare centers in retention bonuses.
