If the editor is away on Saturday, Sept. 16, I am most likely in the Tipton area.
A benefit is being held for my sister, Andrea, in her ongoing fight with ovarian cancer that afternoon/evening. The benefit also coincides with my mother and sister’s birthdays, so it is one of those “if you are not here, you best have a really good reason why not.”
Andrea has had to step down to part time work since March, where she had previously worked in an assisted living center as the director and then activities director. It was a job she loved doing and fit her personality, but the center being understaffed and relying on her to put in longer hours was becoming detrimental to her health.
Her ongoing chemo treatments and other experimental treatments have also been putting a toll on her health. At grandma’s funeral, it was evident that she was really hurting both emotionally and physically from her cancer.
It has been a long year for me as I’ve been remaining optimistic for my sister and the things she’s enduring while having my own headaches as news editor. I am extremely hopeful she finally sees the numbers going in the right direction so (fingers crossed) she can get a hysterectomy scheduled this November and remove the bulk of the cancer impacting her and be back on the road to recovery and pestering this older brother once again.
The benefit event is slated at the Matthews Building on the Cedar County Fairgrounds from 4 to 7 p.m. Silent auctions are going to be held, as well as door prizes given out.
