The Mount Vernon Mustangs will play their last varsity football on the First Street Field against Solon Friday, Sept. 15.
There will be celebrations before, during, and after the game to mark the move from the First Street Field to the new activities complex, and there will also be some events before involving alumni members.
Alumni members of the Marching Mustangs have been invited to join the current Marching Mustangs to play the National Anthem and fight song prior to the game. All alumni members who played football and were cheerleaders will form a tunnel the players will run through prior to the start of the game. Football players from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s will join the current team captains for the coin toss prior to the game.
At halftime, those who were part of the First Street Save the Field renovation project will be recognized.
After the game Dave Ryan, the Voice of the Mustangs, will provide a retrospective of Mustang Football at the First Street Field.
Finally, the Hahn Howard Post 480 of the American Legion will lower the flag that will then be presented to a student leader who will ensure the delivery of the flag to the new activities complex.
The Mount Vernon Community School District invites you to come out Sept. 15 to enjoy the festivities as we say goodbye to the First Street Field, while also taking on Solon in a big rivalry game.
