Several community members have shown an interest in joining one of our two book groups for adults but for different reasons just can’t carve out the time to commit to a monthly discussion. Currently, at Cole Library, our book discussion groups both meet on the third Tuesday of each month — one in the morning, the other in the evening.
Each year the members chose the books they will read and discuss. The morning group chooses in January but the evening group chooses in August and is just getting started on another year of reading and discussing books.
I thought it would be interesting to compile what the evening group voted on to read this year plus the titles that were suggested but didn’t make the final cut. This way if you can’t make the meetings, you can still expand your reading horizons and read along at your leisure.
The evening group chose:
The Last Thing He Told Me – Laura Dave
All the Beauty in the World – Patrick Bringley
Thunderstruck – Erik Larson
Women in White Coats – Olivis Campbell
Miss Benson’s Beetle – Rachel Joyce
Natural History – Andrea Barrett
A Most Remarkable Creature – Jonathan Meiburg
Better Living Through Birding – Christian Cooper
One Summer – Bill Bryson
Books that didn’t make the cut but are still worth a read are:
The Butterfly Effect – Rachel Mans McKenny
Hamnet – Maggie O’Farrell
The First Ladies – Marie Benedict & Victoria Murray
The Late Americans – Brandon Taylor
When We Cease to Understand the World – Benjamin Labatat
The Good Country: A History of the American Midwest 1800-1900, Jon Lauck
Good for a Girl: A Woman Running in a Man’s World – Lauren Fleshman
Though we are starting our new year now you can join at any time.
