The Golden Cut barbershop is now open in uptown Mount Vernon.
“I really enjoy making people’s day and giving them a haircut or hairstyle they can be proud of,” owner Jacobo Flores said.
Flores has been a licensed barber for the past three years, and opened his shop in uptown Mount Vernon at 102 First Street Southwest (the former location of Iron Leaf Press)
He said he has been coming to Mount Vernon with friends for a number of years and really liked this community and wanted to open a business.
“There wasn’t much work needed to open this shop, just moved in a chair and I was ready to go,” Flores said.
He has new signage that was approved by the Mount Vernon Historic Preservation Commission at their most Aug. 17 meeting.
His hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays (or later by appointment on Saturdays).
Flores said walk-ins are accepted, but if people want to make an appointment, he uses the Booksy website under The Golden Cut or you can call 319-826-4223.
Haircuts are $30 for men, $40 for a beard and haircut trim or $20 for a kids trim.
“Mount Vernon has been a very welcoming community, and I’m looking forward to see more customers from the community come in for haircuts,” Flores said.
