The Run for Pie 5K and kids one-mile fun run is returning Saturday, Sept. 16, to Lisbon City Park.
The proceeds from the race benefit 4,000 students in Haiti supported by area churches All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mount Vernon and St Mary’s Catholic Church in Vinton.
Registration is now $35 for participants, with t-shirts still available (as supplies last) or $20 to race without a t-shirt for the 5K and $25 with a t-shirt (as supplies last) or $10 just to participate in the kids fun run.
Packet pick-up and registration is Sept. 16 from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The 5K starts at Lisbon Park at 9 a.m., and the kids fun run begins at 9:45 a.m.
The race heads from the park and along South Street to Alexander Avenue where it heads north towards Main Street. The route then follows Main Street to the west towards the gazebo past Franklin Street, where the race then returns to the park following the same route.
Overall winners receive a piece of Haitian art, while all age group winners have their choice of donated homemade pies. All finishers receive a slice of homemade pie.
The race will be held rain or shine. In the event of nearby lightning, the race director may postpone the start of the races or cancel them altogether to ensure the safety of competitors, participants, spectators and volunteers. Because funds raised for the event are used to support the education of impoverished children in rural Haiti, no refunds will be issued in the event the race is canceled or postponed.
The event is chip-timed with bib-chips and individual results will be available for printouts following the race.
