The Mount Vernon City Council approved work as finished on Stonebrook’s Ninth Addition.
City administrator Chris Nosbisch said there was one portion of the project slated to wrap up this fall, which is the grinding of the pavement on Seventeenth Avenue.
“There’s a stretch of road that you can feel the small indentations in the roadway as you’re driving at lower speeds,” Nosbisch said. “The contractor said that will still be completed.”
Bryce Ricklefs with Boomerang explained there’s only one contractor that still grinds concrete, and they are booked up until the third week of September, when they will be able to come address the issue in Mount Vernon.
City council member Scott Rose asked if there was any standard in city code for concrete and if that is needed. Nosbisch said there aren’t, and this was the only project where this has happened since he has been city administrator and the contractor are working to address the issue.
“Our paver broke three separate times as we were going down the street, so you can feel the starts and stops,” Ricklefs said. “We’re not happy with this road at this point and want the rough areas grinded so it drives smoother.”
Mayor Tom Wieseler asked when the next street for Stonebrook addition would be poured, and that looks like it will be summer 2024, with construction of utilities like water and sewer for some of those new homes this winter.
