What do you come to Sauerkraut Days for?
Is it to connect with the history of the event? This year featured a tour of historic downtown Lisbon that gave details on the buildings in the historic downtown district that gave people plenty to digest.
Is it connection to the community? There was Thursday’s ice cream social and the Celebration of Community festival. Yes, the lines were long for the ice cream, but it gave you time to visit more with neighbors and friends while there and see the park bustling ahead of the fireworks.
Maybe it’s the athletic activities. You had the 5K run Saturday morning, bags tournaments, softball tournaments and volleyball tournaments to entice you. Plus, there was the send off for wrestling coach Brad Smith that drew in hundreds of wrestlers who previously served with the coach.
Fun and games? There were the carnival rides in uptown, Wednesday evening’s movie in the park, fireworks, teen dance, as well as the returning bathtub races in uptown.
Music was there with the Mike Lasack band, Laurie Maher and others providing entertainment over the four days, including two street dances.
Bingo, parade, crowning of king and queen and the announcement of the inductees for the Lisbon Hall of Fame. A packed car show with all sorts of vehicles on display.
And all the brats, sauerkraut and (if you were lucky) Reubens you could eat, plus food booths from area churches in the uptown.
It was a packed weekend, once again, with some of the best temperatures and weather that we could have asked for before the school year kicks off.
Our thanks to the committee who made this festival go again this year and draw people to Lisbon for a fun weekend packed with events.
