Work that doesn’t happen overnight but is something that people in this community and others refer to on a weekly basis: that’s how Lisa Lansing, volunteer of the year for Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group (MVLCDG), described her work as a leader on the MVLCDG’s website revamp.
“It was an honor to be recognized for this award,” Lansing said. “I have been coming to Mount Vernon since I was a little girl and I have worked in this community for 23 years now and have been more actively involved for the past four years volunteering with the CDG. It is a great community to be a part of.”
That work on the website was more than a year in progress from the vision to launching, with the goal of creating a more user friendly and contemporary website for MVLCDG.
“There is a lot of information that needs to be collected and reviewed each step of the way,” Lansing said. “Scott Cannon with Market Street did a phenomenal job on this project. Everyone on the CDG Marketing Committee has invested a substantial amount of time, along with Joe Jennison, in making this website a great representation of how amazing this community really is.”
Lansing said work is still ongoing on a few areas of the website, including updating some of the photography.
“We are also working on the listings of all of the service businesses,” Lansing said. “Currently, we only show businesses that are for dining and shopping on the website. It’s a work in progress, but we are continuously making changes to improve it.”
The new website had an official rollout day of March 1, 2023.
Lansing said the new website was something that had been discussed by the Marketing committee for a while, and that’s what spurred her to volunteer with the project.
“After reviewing other Main Street websites, we realized that it was time for an update to give the website more of a present-day, modern look,” Lansing said.
Lansing was also the committee chair for the retail promotion committee of CDG that met monthly in uptown Mount Vernon. She took over leadership of that committee when Myrt Bowers stepped down. The committee met at Alger’s Pizza Palace in uptown Mount Vernon and has since stopped monthly meetings.
“It is so rewarding to see the final result you’ve spent so much of your time on with any project you volunteer with,” Lansing said. “I’ve also really loved getting to know so many people in the community because of my work volunteering with CDG.”
