QigongFriends of the Palisades Keplar State Park will be hosting a Qigong with Dr. Catherine Quehl-Engel session at Pavilion #1 at the Palisades-Kepler State Park Saturday, Aug. 26, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
School starting Mount Vernon and Lisbon schools will have their first day of school Wednesday, Aug. 23. That day will also be an early out for both schools at 1:15 p.m. As well, Cornell first year students will be returning to campus and moving into dormitories that morning. Returning Cornell College students move in the weekend of Aug. 26.

school donations If you were missing school supplies for students in elementary classes in Washington Elementary school from Southeast Linn Community center’s donations this year, the Washington Elementary Teachers and Parents organization had ordered supplies for grades in the upper elementary classes this year. Notes were included with the packets for students in those grades that the omission was not an oversight, the supplies were purchased for students with that program instead.
New story walkHills Bank, Mount Vernon Community Schools and Cole Library have announced a new story walk path in Mount Vernon. The path goes from the south end of Library Lane and east along College Boulevard, then south along Fifth Avenue ending at the Washington Elementary school playground. The book featured in the story walk is Mo Willems “The Pigeon HAS to go to School.”
