I am writing today to ask for your continued help with regard to the Sun.
We very much appreciate the community support in the form of advertising and subscriptions. Those two areas are the lifeblood of any local newspaper. We also feel that local journalism is crucial to a strong community, a thriving business base, active and engaged candidates and electorate and a strong, functioning democracy.
The main goals of a community newspaper are to inform, entertain and connect with its readers. The Mount Vernon-Lisbon Sun works to do this every week by providing coverage of city councils, school boards and the greater community. We provide a variety of coverage on local events, sports and business news to help keep the community informed.
The Sun has invested in the community through our websites, print editions, e-editions, newsletters and our expanded advertising offerings. We now have more digital options including search ads, re-marketing, web ads, newsletter ads, email marketing, video and more.
Like other businesses, we have absorbed skyrocketing costs, while working hard to keep the newspaper affordable. Like newspapers around the country, over the past few years, labor, newsprint and postal costs have gone up and our profit line has gone down.
In order for the Sun to be sustainable and keep up with its current mission to keep the community informed, entertained and connected, we need your help.
• If you don’t currently subscribe to the paper, please give Rochelle a call and sign up today for $55 a year.
• Call Paul to find out more about all of the options that the Sun has for advertising (both print and digital). We would like to be your go-to partner for print and digital advertising, whether your audience is local or farther afield. We have the tools to reach both.
• If you have a story idea, please let Nathan know.
I am sharing all of this with you because we feel Mount Vernon wants, needs, and deserves a strong local newspaper. We hope you feel the same way and we need the community to continue to keep (and grow) its patronage for the Sun to remain viable.
Thanks again for your past support. We are here for you. If you have questions or would like to engage with us on these topics, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 319-895-6216.
