Lisbon Sauerkraut Days will be returning Wednesday, Aug. 16 through Saturday, Aug. 19 in downtown Lisbon.
Wednesday, Aug. 16This year, the Lisbon Historic Preservation Commission will be hosting a walking tour of the Lisbon Main Street Historic District, beginning at 7 p.m. The tour kicks off at the Lincoln Square Gazebo and then walks through Lisbon’s downtown to learn about some of the historic buildings in uptown, a registered National Historic District.
Lisbon parks and recreation will be hosting the movie in the park at Lisbon City park at dusk (roughly 9 p.m.), Illumination Animation’s “Super Mario Bros. Movie.”
Thursday, Aug. 17 An ice cream social will be held at Lisbon City Park beginning at 6:30 p.m. Live music, bounce houses, ice cream and desserts will be offered, as well as tractor rides.
The first day of the Lisbon Sauerkraut Days softball tournament will be held Thursday, Aug. 17.
At dusk, a fireworks display will take place at Lisbon City Park, firing from the nearby baseball diamonds.
A teen street dance will also be held in downtown Lisbon, beginning at 9:30 p.m.
Set up for Lisbon Sauerkraut Days will begin Thursday morning in downtown Lisbon, with the Kraut Stage as well as some of the carnival rides.
Friday, Aug. 18Events kick off at 5 p.m. for Sauerkraut Days, with the food and vendors open, as well as carnival rides in uptown Lisbon.
The crowning of the Sauerkraut Days King and Queen takes place at 5:30 p.m. Students from the Lisbon Early Childcare Center will perform on the main stage at 5:45 p.m.
Studio 30 will also have a dance performance beginning at 6:15 p.m.
The youth tractor pull begins at 6:30 p.m. in Lisbon City Hall parking lot.
The evening concludes with the street dance featuring The Laid Back Band at 8 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 19 The morning kicks off with the Kraut Route 5K run/walk from Lisbon City park, beginning at 8 a.m. Advanced registration is $15 or race day registration is $20. Racers need to check in beginning at 7 a.m. Roads around the park will be closed temporarily during the course of the race.
Winners will be named for each age division in men’s and women’s runners. The route will advance from Lisbon City Park down South Street to Alexander Avenue, then head north to Main Street. The route follows Main Street to the east out to the intersection with Business 30 before returning back to the west along Main Street to Monroe Street where it advances to Fifth Avenue East for a block, then follows along Jackson Street back to Lisbon City Park.
The sand volleyball tournament begins at Beau Dylans at 9 a.m., and parade line-up begins at 9:30 a.m. at Fifth Avenue and North Washington Street. No water balloons or water are to be thrown from floats during the parade.
The Lora Light Memorial Parade begins at 10:30 a.m., following Washington Street to Market Street, Market Street to Walnut Street, Walnut Street to Main Street, Main Street to Penn Street, Penn Street to South Street and South Street to the school parking lot. Roads will be closed to traffic during the parade.
The Cabbage Head Car Show begins at 11 a.m. along East Main Street. Antiques, motorcycles, rods, race cars and all cool vehicles will be on display. There are no trophies, classes or judging, just prizes handed out to all participants. Line-up can begin as soon as 9 a.m.
Bingo will be held at the Lisbon American Legion beginning at noon.
Live music is at the Kraut Tent throughout the afternoon, and a bags tournament is held Saturday begins at 11 a.m.
The Lisbon wrestling labor auction will begin at 1 p.m. this year. The event will be followed by a reception for retiring wrestling coach Brad Smith at the Sauerkraut Days mainstage area.
The Lisbon Fire Department will hold the annual bath tub races beginning at 2 p.m. Water balloons will be sold ahead of the races at the Lisbon Fire Station.
The evening concludes with Lonesome Road headlining a street dance at 9 p.m.
